What is the Chamber of Commerce?

Cardigan Chamber Limited is a Company Limited by Guarantee representing business and professional interest within our community. It is a non-profit making organisation, run by and for its members.

What does the Cardigan Chamber do?

Principally it represents the interests of the general business life of the town. The Chamber does this in a number of ways. The organisation acts as an action group, either lending its support to, or, at times, resisting changes to local or national legislation in order to further the interests of its members and , in so doing, the greater community at large. The Chamber also promotes trading activities by assisting the expansion of local trade and by acting as an information centre - through publications and documents such as the town guide. The Chamber also seeks to liaise with local authorities for the benefit of its members, in matters as diverse as street cleaning to parking charges.

What can one small local Chamber do?

Cardigan Chamber Limited is a full member of the County Chamber: - Siambr Ceredigion Chamber Ltd., which is also a Company Limited by Guarantee. It represents all the town Chambers in Ceredigion as well as the local Tourism Associations and is rapidly becoming a significant lobby group. This broad membership base also brings enhanced buying power for services, which are translated, into beneficial rates for members. It supports its local Chambers and all its associate members. Siambr Ceredigion Chamber is also affiliated with Chamber Wales. The County Chamber also has a seat on several county and regional committees including the Local Economic Development Partnership, and the Ceredigion 2020 Strategy Partnership.

What does it cost to join?

Membership of the Chamber is drawn from every level of business - from the smallest shops to companies and institutions with branches in every town and is currently set at a rate of £35 per annum for individual members. However, in the business community there are more smaller businesses than large, so any submission the Chamber makes, whether it be to the local council or even Whitehall, will always seek to represent the interests of the whole business community.

Where and when?

The Cardigan Chamber meets on the first Monday of every month at 7.30pm. New members are most welcome to attend our friendly meetings. Please contact an existing member for further details or click here for online membership.
